The Atlanta Hawks' Head Coach Larry Drew was named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for December 2012. Coach Drew, currently in his third season as head coach of the Hawks after being promoted from an assistant coach for the 2010-11 season, coached the Hawks to a 10-5 record this past month (tied for best in the East). No Hawks coach has received this honor in almost 16 years. Coach Drew joins only three other Hawks coaches to have ever won this award: Mike Fratello, Lenny Wilkins, and current Hawks assistant coach/consultant Bob Weiss. Looking at those names, he is in some good company now. The Western Conference Coach of the Month for December was Vinny Del Negro, who coached the Los Angeles Clippers to a 16-0 month. I think Coach Drew really deserved this. His team battled with quite a few injuries during the month, but (and I think a lot of credit goes to Coach Drew here) the Hawks won ball games.
