Hawks vs. Nets Preview
The Atlanta Hawks will take on the Brooklyn Nets tonight on the road at the Barclays Center. This will be the fourth and final meeting between these two teams this regular season. This will also be the first game of a back-to-back set for the Hawks. With a win tonight, the Hawks would improve to 37-29 on the season, 2-2 in the regular season series with the Nets, and 1-0 in their back-to-back set. The probable starters for the Hawks tonight are Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver in the backcourt, DeShawn Stevenson and Josh Smith at the two forward positions, and Al Horford at center. Louis Williams (torn ACL, right knee) and Zaza Pachulia (sore right Achilles) are listed as out. This suggests that Jeff Teague may have lost his starting spot due to Devin Harris' superb play while he's been injured, given that Teague isn't on the injury report anymore. Teague played but didn't start in the Hawks' last game, but it was said that that was so he could ease back onto the court to see how his ankle felt. Coach Larry Drew could be doing that again, or maybe he thought the Hawks were better off with Harris running the point. The probable starters also suggest that Stevenson will sit out on the second game of the back-to-back with his knee, rather than this first one. I think that this is the right move, because I would rather have Stevenson against Gerald Wallace than against Shawn Marion/Jae Crowder. I think the key to a win tonight for the Hawks is to force Brooklyn to play at their pace. Brooklyn likes to play a halfcourt game, and if the Hawks can make them uncomfortable by pushing the ball, I think they can get a W tonight on the road.
