The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-103 on the road. This was the first game of a back-to-back set for the Hawks. With the loss, the Hawks dropped to 20-13 on the season, 0-1 in the regular season series with the Timberwolves, and 0-1 in their back-to-back set. The starters for the Hawks were Jeff Teague and Louis Williams in the backcourt, Kyle Korver and Josh Smith at the two forward spots, and Al Horford at center. Devin Harris (sore left foot) and Anthony Morrow (right hip strain, stiff back) did not play. Ivan Johnson received a DNP-CD. The Hawks were lead by Josh Smith and Louis Williams, who each scored 21 points. Smith also grabbed 13 boards and dished out seven assists, giving him a double-double on the night. He passed Cliff Hagan to move into seventh all-time on the Hawks' career rebounding list. Williams dished out eight assists. Al Horford added a double-double, with 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Hawks lost for the first time all season when Horford and Josh Smith both record double-doubles. Kyle Korver contributed 15 points. John Jenkins dropped in 10 points off the bench, scoring in double-figures for the third time in six games. The leading scorer for the Timberwolves was Nikola Pekovic, with a game-high 25 points. In the first quarter, the Hawks allowed the Timberwolves to score 30 points, and they trailed by 10 at the end of one. In the second quarter, the Timberwolves outscored the Hawks 28-22. They took their biggest lead at 17 with 8:19 to go in the first half, and their halftime lead stood at 16, 58-42. In the third quarter, the Hawks outscored the Timberwolves 29-27, but they still trailed 85-71 heading into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, the Hawks went on a 14-4 run. They cut the Timberwolves' lead to 104-103 with 36.6 seconds to go in regulation. Dante Cunningham hit a 20-footer on the next Timberwolves' possession, and then he stole the Hawks' inbounds pass on their next possession. Luke Ridnour nailed two at the charity stripe, and the Hawks lost by five. I think the key reason the Hawks lost was that they didn't attack inside in the absence of Kevin Love. The Timberwolves outscored them 50-38 in points in the paint. Tough loss for the Hawks, as they have now lost three straight.
