The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Golden State Warriors 92-88 on the road. This was the third game of a four-game road trip for the Hawks. With the loss, the Hawks dropped to 3-4 on the season, 0-1 in the regular season series with the Warriors, and 1-2 on their four-game road trip. The starters for the Hawks were Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver in the backcourt, DeShawn Stevenson and Josh Smith at the two forward positions, and Zaza Pachulia at center. Al Horford and Devin Harris did not play due to a stomach bug that almost kept Josh Smith and Louis Williams out of the Hawks' previous game. It was reported that the Hawks have put more hand sanitizer in the locker room and separated the infected players from the rest of the team. I wish Al and Devin best of luck in getting well soon. The leading scorer for the Hawks was Louis Williams, with 18 points off the bench. He also dished out six assists. Josh Smith added a double-double, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Ivan Johnson contributed 15 points off the bench. Kyle Korver scored 14 points. The leading scorer for the Warriors was Harrison Barnes, with a game-high 19 points. In the first quarter, the Hawks were outscored 22-21. Zaza Pachulia suffered a cut over his right eye in the first, and after receiving stitches in the locker room, he returned to the game. In the second quarter, the Warriors outscored the Hawks 32-25 to take a 54-46 halftime lead over the Hawks. The Hawks began the third quarter on a 7-1 run. The Warriors, however, responded with an 18-7 run that carried into the fourth quarter. It included Richard Jefferson's bank shot to beat the shot clock buzzer at the end of the third. In the fourth quarter, the Hawks did cut their deficit down to two with 11.2 seconds to play in regulation behind strong clutch play from Louis Williams and Ivan Johnson. The Warriors, however, closed out the game with two makes at the charity stripe, and the Hawks lost by four. I think the key reason the Hawks lost was because of rebounding. Yes, Al Horford was out, but Andrew Bogut was out for the Warriors and even if Bogut did play, the other Hawks players really have to work to box out with Horford not in the lineup. Zaza Pachulia, who started in place of Horford, only grabbed two boards. I know he missed some time getting stiches, but he still played 23 minutes. Also, Coach Larry Drew didn't use Johan Petro enough with Horford out. He only logged five minutes. Tough loss for the Hawks.
