It was announced that the Atlanta Hawks' own Josh Smith was named the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, December 3 through Sunday, December 9. The 6'9" forward lead the Hawks to a 3-0 record in games played that week. He averaged 21 points per game, 12 rebounds per game, and two steals per game over the three games. This was his second career Player of the Week award. He is the second Hawk to take home the honor this year, as Al Horford got named the Player of the Week once last month. Horford was also a nominee for Player of the Week this time. Congratulations to Josh Smith. It was well deserved, as the Hawks took down the Denver Nuggets (who were ranked the best team in the West by ESPN prior to the start of the season) and the Memphis Grizzlies (who had the highest winning percentage in the Western Conference prior to their game against the Hawks).
